Our Story

How It Started

Adam and Stephanie met in 2016 during a difficult season in both of their lives.

Stephanie was struggling deeply with loneliness and depression, while Adam was wrestling with his own brokenness and searching for meaning and identity. Though both had grown up around church and knew about God, neither of them had truly experienced the transforming relationship with Jesus that the Bible describes.

Their relationship quickly became a mirror that exposed the broken areas of both of their lives.

Eventually everything reached a breaking point. What felt like the end of their relationship became the beginning of something much deeper — God began to change their hearts.

During that season they each began pursuing Jesus seriously for the first time. Through Scripture, prayer, and Christian community, they began to understand the grace and love of God in a new way.

God didn’t just restore their relationship — He transformed their lives.

A Growing Burden

Adam eventually stepped away from a fully funded college marketing program to pursue training in ministry leadership.

In 2020, Adam and Stephanie moved to Durham, North Carolina. Shortly afterward the COVID pandemic created an unexpected season of isolation for many people, including them.

During that time, God began to grow a deep burden in their hearts for something simple but powerful:

Helping people truly know Jesus and walk with Him in authentic community.

Through serving in ministry and helping lead small groups, they saw firsthand how life-changing genuine Christian community can be when people study Scripture together, pray for one another, and live life side-by-side.

Why Devoted Church Exists

Over time God began placing a specific burden on our hearts for Person County.

While the area has deep spiritual roots, many people still feel disconnected from meaningful Christian community or opportunities to grow as disciples of Jesus.

Devoted Church was born from a simple, God-given calling:

To cultivate homes that are devoted to God, each other, and others.

Our hope is to see homes across Person County become places where people gather to worship Jesus, study Scripture, pray together, and grow as disciples who help others follow Christ.

Our Prayer

Our prayer is not simply to build another church gathering, but to see a movement of disciples who love God deeply, care for one another genuinely, and bring the hope of the gospel to their community – not just through Devoted Church, but across all Christian churches.
